Volunteering helping inmates reentering society

Hello everyone,

I am a criminal justice student living in DeLand, FL who is looking for ways to volunteer helping inmates reentering society. I would like to start out volunteering and maybe someday move into a career in this field, either in probation or parole work. I will be receiving my bachelors in criminal justice in spring or summer of 2013, so I will be more qualified then to technically hold a job in that field, but I feel that volunteering or getting involved in my community in that aspect somehow would be really beneficial. I just don't know where to start because I haven't done a lot of volunteering in my life. I have been searching all over the internet and stumbled on this website, so I figure any kind of message I can get out there might help. If you know any way of getting started volunteering in this way, please contact me with agency names and phone numbers that I can call to get started. I work part time, go to school part time, and I know I have a lot to offer in the rest of my spare time. Thank you so much in advance for any direction you can give me on this!!

Housing for People released from Jail or Prison

I am looking for information on government grants offered to help open housing for inmates relased from jail or prison.  I want to open a half way house for these people to have a place to try and get their lives back on track.

I have a building that can be rennovated to fit these needs.  I would like a common room, an open kitchen , serving meals 3 times a day. Each person would have their own room with a small bath.  There would be a house Mother or Father on duty at all times.  The common room would be used by all to watch TV or listen to music.  They could read or visit with their families.  I would also need a laundry room where they could do their laundry.  Of course rules would be established once this was all set up.  The main one being that they have to have a job, cannot use drugs, or alchol, they cannot possess a weapon of any kind.  They must conduct themselves in a proper manner at all times while on the premises.  If they cannot follow these rules, they would be asked to leave immediately.

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

Prison Ministry needs your help today

Arkyfaith Church was conceived by the vision of Pastor Deborah M. Bailey to help lost souls find the true path to Christ, by having many outreach programs available. The church was open for operation in February 2004. Since that time it has became an outreach portal in the following areas:

Shut – INS
Youth groups
Prison Ministry
Mentoring program
Bible study by mail
Caring card ministry
Feeding the hungry worldwide
Christmas cards to the troops
Other charitable events

Our current project: Bibles for prisoners

Our plan is to reach prisoners worldwide and offer bibles and bible studies to those who are forgotten by society. Our project also includes our caring card ministry, which is our initial contact with such prisoners. A postcard and gospel tract is mailed to each prisoner. We acquire their names through varies means, prayer requests from loved ones, other churches or non profit organizations that work with prisons worldwide. The status of said prisoner is not of concern, meaning that any prisoner qualifies for our program. Once said prisoner has received his or her care card envelop a postcard already pre stamped and addressed to the church can be returned for our services.

Our problem lies within the means of financial donations which are currently limited and fall well below operating standards.

The purposed amount we are seeking with your particular institution is $1000. Our total yearly cost of this endeavor is estimated at a little over $72,000, especially with the rising costs of stamps and supplies. This amount is sure to double within the next 5 years.

Reaching he lost is our life mission. No one can be spared at any cost.

Thank you for your generous consideration and time
